Royal Household Bowls Trip
A Trip to Windsor in the Rain
Despite the weather, where it rained most of the day, the trip to Windsor to play against the Royal Household Bowls Club was a very enjoyable occasion. Boarding the coach at 11am, we arrived by 12:30pm in plenty of time to look around and have drinks and a spot of lunch. The match started at 2:30pm and was a very close affair with just a narrow loss by 94 to 93.
The tea provided afterwards was a superb variation on a ploughman’s and was exceptional, leaving everyone full, especially after the large portion of chocolate cake for dessert. Then the speeches. The highest winning rink for the Royal Household received, not the usual pen, but an engraved whisky taster glass. Those who bowled wrong biases (of which there were three, two from Borough Green) received a very special certificate, designed to look old and official. All in all, the experience was fitting for our 70th anniversary celebrations and everyone enjoyed the day. We arrived back in Borough Green by 8:30pm, tired but happy.
